Showing up can be frighten but I was just wondering how do we get past it because we are always going to encounter resistance with all levels of growth.

Joyce, You are so right. We will encounter resistance with all levels of growth. I would say that for me the most effective thing has been to cultivate my creative community. They are the people I go to when I am experiencing a resistance I just can't bust through on my own. It is so important to have those relationships for perspective and to lean back on a bit when the resistance or roadblocks really hold you back. At times a problem that for me is difficult, may be an area of expertise for a friend of mine. I am fortunate to have grown these relationships and encourage each of us to do the same. There are many instances where I go to a friend for a morale boost or fresh perspective on resistance. I am also keenly aware of who those people are in my life and I give them loads of encouragement as well. Opening up to ask for help has been clutch in my busting through resistance during a "growth opportunity" : ) I hope this was helpful.

There was a time when I didn't know who these people were, my creative community, and it was a very isolating feeling. But reaching out and plugging in to the resources that are available, priceless. Books, forums, meetups, or taking a class. All good ways to find our way through the resistance we will most certainly meet.

One of my favorite books on this is by Steven Pressfield, "The War of Art". He goes into great detail about resistance and I highly recommend the read.

Love this...and totally agree that this stage of the creative process could be challenging, because the end result is *right* there, at the surface, and you can't really see what it's going to look like, until you break through that point of completion. Wonderful metaphor!!

I know, Desiree! I feel like most of us do quit right before we actually break ground! It's tough when we are reaching out and working hard and trying to bring something to fruition....that is why encouraging each other to keep going until we get that breaking ground moment is so important : )

The metaphor really makes these truths come to life. I love how you bring up the moment just before breaking the surface and describe the mound of dirt. Beautifully said. I can't wait to read your book!!

I'm so glad I finally visit your blog!
You're so sweet on camera and I love your metaphor for the creative process so much.

Do you plan to do international shipping for your book, or maybe an audio recording? I'm wondering how can I put my hands on it (:

Another great video which draws one in closer, with real anticipation. I never thought of myself as a "creative" person before I started listening to and reading the words of Court McCracken. I thought, "Well, occasionally I write or say something moderately "creative" and sometimes I might play "creatively" a few notes on the piano, but these are really just exceptions which prove the rule: I am not a member of the "creative" group of artists, thinkers, writers, musicians, et al." Now I realize I am indeed a creative person, as are many. Indeed, everyone has a creative spirit inside of them, I am quite certain.. We just need to acknowledge and encourage that part of our lives. In short, we need to Nurture our Creativity. Thank you, Court !
