Write it on your heart...

This poem is one I love for inspiration, especially when I am wondering if I am heading in the right direction with my art or when I am feeling like I maybe have not done enough. It reminds me that today, you can only do what you can do today, that tomorrow is for tomorrow's work and that showing up in your studio or workspace, sitting down at your computer to write, whatever, even if it's bad; just show up and make your stuff. Tomorrow will take care of itself, and yesterday is not for you to worry about, but today you did what you could.

Write it on your heart...

Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day,
and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt, crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a
new day;
begin it well and serenely,
with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear, with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays...

 ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

This poem is the new inspiration by which I try to live every day. Move forward, not back. Thanks for posting it!

I'm so glad to hear that, Rachel! I felt the same way when I read this for the first time. Let me know how your forward movement is going.
