As some of you know, about two years ago I took The Artist's Way course here in Asheville, led by some amazing instructors. It was a pivotal course for me. I had read through Julia Cameron's book, The Artist's Way, by myself before but having the group insight and feedback and accountability was integral. I looked forward to my weekly group classes and I learned so much from others in the course as well.
The greatest thing I gained during this process was a level of graciousness with myself and my creative process and professional goals that I had not had before. I tended to be rather hard on myself and my perfectionism was choking out my ability to do anything. It was a very dry period in my life creatively prior to my discovery of The Artist's Way as a resource and then the class experience. This time was one of rediscovering my freedom within my creativity. During my time writing here on Art Nurture, I have had many people ask if I would lead The Artist's Way online. I have decided to do just that and the next session will be beginning on August 7th. How will this course take place? What are the logistics? I utilize a service called Ready Talk for web conferencing. Each member of the class will have a phone number to call in for the audio part of the class (you will be able to hear me and talk with other class mates). If you would like to see the visuals I will have for you, you can log in to Ready Talk on your computer simultaneously to see questions I may jot down, sort of using it as a black board or powerpoint presentation, so that everyone in the group can see the same thing. If you are not able to log in on a computer, that is ok, you can still call in the 1-800 number provided by Ready Talk that I will send to you in your e-mail. You can still fully participate in class even if you are sitting on your front porch swing with the phone to your ear, just like talking to a friend. I will also communicate with the group as the facilitator via e-mail. I will also create a private blog for the class to communicate with each other and post updates, comments, suggestions, photos or stories. What you can expect from The Artist's Way course: Each person will need to purchase their own copy of The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. Since the group will meet once a week on Tuesday evenings and the course is 12 weeks long, we will have 12 meetings total. Each person will go through that week in the book on their own and then we will meet together to discuss. We will discuss, explore and practice the tools that Julia teaches in The Artist's Way: Morning Pages, going on walks and taking Artist's Dates. I hope you will choose to join The Artist's Way online and that you will find an environment of support, insight and encouragement as you travel on this journey to rediscovering your creative self. Let me know if you would like to ask a question or register for the course!
