One day, many months ago, I flippantly mentioned that I had always wanted to learn to ice skate backwards. My friend, Sara, popped up with a smile and said, "I used to teach ice skating to beginners!" What are the odds of that? I told her how I had only gone to one or two skating parties as a kid and had never gotten beyond the basic-round-the-rink movement and that I had always wanted to skate backwards; that it had always looked more fun than the typical "forward". We talked about our skating adventure for quite some time and finally the day arrived... today. We drove down to South Carolina, the closest rink to us, and had a wonderful time. I had so much fun I didn't stop smiling the whole time. I felt like a joyful child, seriously, nothing can make you feel more awesome than embracing how not awesome you are at something and giving it a go anyways. You will see from the videos that I am no where near the grace and splendor of Sara, but I awkwardly gave my childhood Michelle Kwan dream a chance and had a blast! The following videos depict a small slice of my friend's awesome talent. Don't worry, you'll definitely be able to tell which one is me, you wont be confused. Seriously.... awesome... day.
