I shared with you a while back that I was going to take part in Art House Co-Op's Sketchbook Project 2012. Below is a short video I made to record my interaction with the sketchbook. It is less than 2 minutes long, but it shows my process. This is an amazing organization and you should definitely look them up. They are focused on creating unique community driven art, in which anyone in the world can access and participate. The sketchbooks are sent to live in the Brooklyn Art Library and can be found there or on their World Tour, as you can see, each one is given a unique barcode so they are able to be found. So, when in Brooklyn, look up my book! You can participate too! The Sketchbook Project 2013 is up and running! There are a limited number of sketchbooks for each edition, so if you want to participate in this project, go for it! I decided to select the theme "Thread & Surface". For a while I wasn't sure what I was going to do with this theme. I decided that my book would play with the surface of the paper and that the thread would be my pencil lines. I definitely attempted some new things with this sketchbook, such as binding. It was my first time doing this and although it was not incredibly successful, I learned a lot and I will do better next time. Everything is a learning experience and I wanted this experience to be one that pushed me a bit out of my comfort zone. Each of the pages I hand cut out of a cotton paper. The weight is a bit heavy, but that worked well for when I added the paint. Who knows, I may decide to do this project again and try something else totally new and different! Go to www.arthousecoop.com and check out what they have to offer... really and truly anyone can participate, so check it out and get inspired.
