One Single Step

I don't know if you struggle with this, but I most certainly do; trying to do too many things at once. And then I sit and wonder, why am I only getting all of these thousands of things I'm trying to do finished only half way? This seems a little ridiculous because I know that I must concentrate on one thing to truly complete it and complete it well.

But I feel like I'm always hearing that multi-tasking is the way to go and that truly successful people are able to balance one million things at a time and get them all done well and do it all while staying healthy and eating right and loving their families and friends and balancing a ball on their nose like a seal.

I'm not that talented, I guess. I simply can't function in this way. And it only ends up frustrating me as I try to function in this way, realizing there is then no time for sleep or rest or relaxation.

My goal is to cut the fat. Focus on only those few things that matter most and do those well. Save some of those other ideas for later. Put them down in a brainstorming journal and then stash it away for a dry spell. I can't do it all at once. But I can do it one at a time.

The famous Lao-tzu quote resonates with me now, "The Journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Not only that, but it is made up of single steps linked together the entire way after that first one!

If you see me running around, talking about how busy I am, tell me, straight up, to my face, "One step at a time." I hope to do the same for you.
