One of my good friends made this video of learning how to use an adaptive mono-ski over the holidays. He has some hip issues that has made regular skiing a less appealing option these days. He was kind enough to share the video with me to share with you all here in the Art Nurture community. Thank you! The mono-ski was originally created around the time of World War II when wounded troops were trying to get back to their way of life. It then became used as a rehabilitation tool and has now climbed the ranks to become an elite sport. Adaptive mono-skiing is making skiing possible for others who have not ventured to try because of disability or who have turned away from the sport because of risk of injury. You can check out a brief history of adaptive skiing here. I hear it is an amazing ab workout not to mention an incredible experience. It is amazing to me that skis and snow boards exist at all, definitely a result of some creative and fun thought. It seems the mono-ski was a natural progression of that creative thought. Necessity + Fun = Creative Solutions And thus the birth of many cool inventions, enriching people's lives all over the world... isn't creativity amazing?
