Last week, I had the opportunity to see one of my most favorite people in the world for an all too short amount of time.
I'm thankful we had even just a few hours to hang out, as she has been living abroad in Mexico and teaching English. Elizabeth is one of my friends that has always supported me and encouraged me in my painting and other art forms in any way that she could. I have tried to do the same for her in her various fields of interest. We became friends the year of the German World Cup when she asked me to teach her to play soccer. A few weeks ago, I mentioned the importance of a nurturing community in pursuing of your own individual art, whatever that may be, the path can be lonely and challenging to take on totally alone... perhaps impossible. Getting creative also means being connected and plugged in to your loves, to yourself, to your friends and community. Even though the last couple of years we have been far away, I was thankful to find that it didn't feel like that much time had passed at all. I felt encouraged and thankful to spend time with my good friend and to see how well she has stepped into her role as a teacher to those all around the world. Hope to visit her soon and paint some pictures while sitting on the beaches in Mexico where she lives!
