I snapped this photo a few days ago.
I love to see the beautiful things that happen unintentionally. The slow aging and the peeling away. The layers of purpose that have happened in a space. Who knows how many paint colors have been on an old wall, until some water damage and a little bump of a chair up against it begin to reveal vague traces of its history. Perhaps someone will come along at some point and sand this spot down, then prime it and then cover it with a fresh coat. Maybe many more times. We nurture these things along. We tend to our homes. We tend to our gardens. If we are wise, we also tend to ourselves. It is a part of our nature to do these things. To plant & sow & eat & sleep. We move through our lives, sometimes revealing our beautiful un-patched walls in need of a good refreshing & refinishing. I suppose that is a way I can describe The Artist's Way, for what it was when it came into my life. I was in desperate need of a refinishing. All dried up and fearful in my art. Julia's words jumped off the page and filled me with the water of hope, that I could do this whole "artist thing". If not for others, then most certainly for myself and that I would be the better for it all. Not that my cracks and patches were unbearable. Not that they wont need tending again in the future. Not that I have it figured all out completely all of the time (or any of the time, for that matter!). But, I live my life in these walls. These layers, both visible and invisible. And they are a part of me. That is why I am so passionate about Art Nurture. That is why I am so passionate about sharing with you the journey of being connected with your creativity.
