Invite Play

I have mentioned before some inspiring words spoken at the YMCA, where I work out, by one of the yoga teachers' whose class I frequent. The other day, while in class, she challenged us to do something different than normal and used the words, "Invite play" when describing the attitude with which we could attempt this new thing. I absolutely loved this phrase, "Invite play!" It was so freeing to hear and so I attempted the new thing! Lo and behold, it was not so scary when I simply thought of it as 'playing'. As kid's we play and are free to pretend to be whatever we want. An astronaut, a race car driver, a ballerina, a kangeroo or (every parent's favorite) whatever mom or dad's job happens to be. I find that when I can get past my adulthood and invite a little play into my life, things begin to open up. In my art, in my path, with my friends, with my job. This new way of thinking or perceiving can even be considered creative thought. 

Last week I had the privilege of participating in a holiday craft night. Several people presented different crafts that were easy and accessible for anyone to make and to give as gifts. It was a group of adults who, for the evening, were devote time to play and on a monday night, we learned how to make soap and cookies and Kahlua! Maybe the last one is one of the benefits of learning to play while still being an adult. Here are some photos from our evening of being creative adults who invite play into our lives!
