Have Yourself a Merry Little Drainage Problem

12/27/2011

Late at night on the 25th (about 1:15 am, so technically the 26th) I was heading to bed, when I noticed a strange scent coming from the other room. I rounded the corner to find that the downstairs kitchen sink ( I live in a duplex sort of set up) was filled and overflowing. No one had left the water running, it was the result of the upstairs kitchen sink garbage disposal clogging, we soon realized. Any time water was put down the drain upstairs, it had no where to go, so it just came up and out our downstairs sink!

I went upstairs and apologetically knocked and explained there was an issue downstairs that needed some necessary attention. We cleaned and snaked and drain-o-ed the water issue as much as possible, but it was beyond our reach. After mopping and cleaning all of the water out, we resorted to calling a plumber early the next morning.

The Rooter Kings came by early afternoon and we made them some coffee for working so hard to help us out on the busy Monday following the Holiday. Every one was thankful and they told us to never EVER use the garbage disposal. They said 90% of the calls they receive are from people who felt the garbage disposal was able to deliver all that it promised. They told us to pretend as though it did not exist in our sink.

The most encouraging thing from their visit for me, was their thoughtful comments on several of my paintings they saw while working in my space. They made note on how much they liked the texture and the combination of shapes and the layering of my work on view in the home. How nice is that!? Creative encouragement can come from anywhere.

So, to my roommate who has been out of town visiting family and I have not yet talked to about this issue, don't worry, I took care of your stuff. And to anyone else worried about putting their creative work out for all to see, just give it a go, you never know! Even if you just have it in your home, you are still sharing it with those you welcome (friends and family) and those you must welcome, because you had a holiday drainage problem.
