The best artist has that thought alone which is contained within the marble shell; the sculptor's hand can only break the spell to free the figures slumbering in the stone."

I've mentioned that I'm a plant nerd, right? Both me and my husband are horticulturalists at heart and we own a small landscape & design company. I really am enjoying the metaphor between plant life and creative life...it really is all connected!! XO

Loving all these metaphors between creativity and plant life. We can learn so many profound things from almost anything. As a chef I can certainly see the connection between the earth, plants, food and creative being.

Absolutely, Silvia! One of my all time favorite arts is that of the culinary nature ; ) I am glad you are enjoying the metaphor, it is always the one that has taught me the most about this creative gardening and cultivating. Thank you for sharing.

I am so glad that I have been exposed to you and your upcoming book Court. For my whole life I thought that there were artistic and not artistic people. Creativity was for others--I couldn't possibly. I am opening up now to the notion that maybe I can, and maybe I will. Thanks!

Yes, Lorna, yes! I am glad to hear you are opening up to the notion that you are creative, Lorna, yes you! The words you share echo others that I work with, that creative is not a category they fall into...but alas, it is a human imperative! Mostly what has happened is that no one has taught us to garden! Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you keep checking back here at Art Nurture and check out the book as well : )

Hi Court! Chapter 3 perfectly articulates my own experience with discovering I'm a creative person. I grew up thinking I wasn't creative for so many reasons, when in reality I was I was terrified of judgement. It wasn't until I felt very safe (in fertile rich soil) that I began to take creative risks. The pay off was incredible and I can't imagine my life now without creative expression. I'm so excited for your upcoming book! It sounds like it's full of juicy nuggets of wisdom! Xx

Emily,
Thanks so much for sharing that....so brilliantly and honestly articulated. I have to resonate your comment with a big "me too!" We all need fertile and rich soil to feel safe in and to begin to shed our layer of protection against those things like fear of judgment. In fact, I would say on some level, that is all of our stories. That is why sharing is so important! Thank you so much for taking the time to do so : )

I appreciate your inviting people to live Life like an Artist, with passion, intention and purpose. In real life my "plants" are on the fend for themselves program, however, I am consciously choosing to nurture the seeds in my mind's garden and am giddy with what is coming up from the soil :)

I'm loving this series, Court. Such a fun way to lead up to your book launch! The nature/creativity metaphor really works for me, and helps me to see how they are so related - creativity is literally a part of our human nature. I love how accessible you make it!

I'm in the process of shedding the outer layer. It's a slow process but it comes with being present about what I'm doing, no matter what that is.

Love your tips Court!

Wow! What a beautiful endeavor - to help people shed the protective layer and uncover their inner creativity. I can only imagine the impact this would have on the world and on our relationships to self and others if we all were to do this. Thank you so much for sharing!!! <3
