I had the privilege this past Sunday evening, of heading out to the beautiful Hawk & Ivy property for an evening of poetry and song as James Navé read from his recently completed book of poems entitled, Looking at Light: Fighting Cancer with Poetry. Some of you may remember when Navé and I created our Conversations on Creativity videos and it was a joy to be invited to such a beautiful place to listen to such meaningful spoken words in great company. There were so many friends there, who had shared in Navé's journey as a person, poet & cancer fighter. Some who had their own bouts with cancer. We talked about the bump in the road concept. How it throws you and how you can work through it, create through it and hopefully be a better person on the other side. Some can be fortunate enough to have that outcome, so what will we do with it? How can we re-evaluate? We all have bumps in the road. Truly we do. Some are cancer, some are divorce, some are depression, some are loss. Perhaps our art can be some good out of all of that. Our friendships strengthened and relationships grown into new and intimate places.
Thankful to know Navé as a teacher & to get to know what poet's are like in real life, since in school they just ask you to read poetry and it doesn't seem these people are truly real. I am glad to know poets exist and that they are awesome people. Click here for more on James Navé's workshops, classes and his most recent publication, Looking at Light: Fighting Cancer with Poetry.
