For those of you who know me personally (or professionally for that matter!) you would know that I am no morning person.
I have struggled with alarms my whole life, needing to set three just to wake me up. I am a late night owl and generally that is when I find myself most creative, bursting with ideas and focus. As I have worked in the restaurant industry for many years, I have reinforced my late night habits, working until midnight or later at times on a regular basis, thus my art life has followed suit. In fact, it is hard for me to get to sleep any earlier even on a night off, the pattern is so ingrained into me. Even though I have run several races, which all start as the sun is rising, I have never been able to force myself to become a morning person. The night before a race, I usually sleep little if at all, and just prefer to think of it as staying up extra late to run. After the race, of course, is a shower and a nice and gratifying sleep. Try as I might, I may never be an early bird. So for those of you who are early birds, you may think it is funny that I got up at 8:45 this morning calling it, "early". I guess, "early for me" would be a better way of articulating. And that on top of it I am marveling the colors of the morning light on my studio walls and how peaceful it is in the early part of the day, here where I work. I'm not saying I'll be able to do this every day, but I'm definitely appreciating the morning much more and hopeful for a day filled with creative activity.
