I love to travel. I love to explore. I enjoy being out and about and seeing new places and trying new food and enjoying all there is in the great wide world to learn and know. That has always been a part of me.
As an artist, I have learned that my space, the when and the where of my art making practice, is very important. For a time that when and where was college and the studios provided by the school. Then it was a spare room shared with another artist roommate. Then a garage. Then a sunroom in another apartment. Then a part of my living room in another apartment. Then, finally, a proper studio. When I am away from the studio I gain important insights and experiences that I can take back to my time and my special place of art making. When I stay away from the studio for too long, I begin to feel unbalanced. Ungrounded. To feel connected again to my practice, just an hour or so in the sacred space I have created brings me back. I am myself again. I know I am an artist with an art home. Travel and life and getting out of the workspace are all good. But coming home always feels so good. I encourage everyone to stay connected with their own individual art practice by giving it those necessary things of time and space. Even if it is just a corner of your room and an hour a week. It is so necessary. Create for yourself that space and give yourself time to rest and create and play within it's safety. That is where the good stuff happens. Above you will see some things I am working on my space. If you don't have a space yet, give yourself some time to create your space this weekend. If it be a place on the calendar that you need, write it in; if you need to clean off a desk or table to get to work, do so. The best time to live life and make sweet art is right now. -Court
