Here I am, Downtown Asheville earlier today, painting in the streets for the City of 1,000 Easels event hosted by the Asheville Area Arts Council and the City of Asheville. This was a truly unique experience, as most artists tend to stick to the privacy and solitude of their studio for the creation of their work, myself included. It was a one of a kind opportunity to connect with people and discuss a bit about your work and to allow the community into the process of art making. Thank you to everyone who stopped by and to all the volunteers who made the event so fun as well as incredibly rewarding. I definitely felt pushed out of my comfort zone but in a totally wonderful and healthy way! It was also wonderful to be able to meet and chat with so many other local artists. So, the wasp nest painting I was working on today is by no stretch of the imagination finished, but I made some good progress and am encouraged by the feedback I received today. At least I know that the work is visually interesting!
Sometimes I wonder if my subject matter is interesting to only me and perhaps no one else, but today I got quite a response from the progress of my nest painting and the fact that I was painting it from life. I actually received some scientific information about wasps nests and other types of nests from several passers-by who seemed quite knowledgeable about the nature of these formations, which inspired me to further research my own subject matter and look at it from a new angle. Who knows when I will be done painting nests, maybe they are my lily pond. All in all, today was a very nurturing day for this artist. Dear Asheville, Today was amazing! Thanks again, Court
