Sometimes I can get a little bogged down or stressed out by worrying about whether or not my creative work is any good. Anyone who has ever experienced this knows that at that point you can no longer get anything done. You simply must walk away. I definitely hit those points on a pretty regular basis and sometimes it is good to push through and other times you have to walk away and take a break so that you can come back with fresh eyes and a renewed mind that is in a calmer place. So, today has been a productive and long day. Though I am excited about the many paintings and drawings and classes that I am working on, I still found myself fighting a little bit of stress that started to creep in... that subtle doubt and pressure you can place upon yourself. I paused for a moment and (before making another mark on another canvas) decided to go on a short walk/scavenger hunt around my studio with my camera. My objective was to open my eyes to what is all around me and to see it anew, with more of an open and childlike enthusiasm. Here is a little bit of what I saw. I feel like it was a good move to get out of the studio. It is funny how sometimes your biggest block can be just making it to the studio, then when you get there, sometimes you can get in your own way. Busting through creative blocks can be a tricky thing; you gotta know when to pick it up and when to put it down. But taking time to slow things down, get outside and open your eyes can only be good.
