Just found this amazing store in Portland, Oregon called Yarnia. They have a creative niche, you can make your own custom yarn blend!
In the last couple of years I have picked up a wee bit of crocheting and knitting as a hobby as a result of some good friends. Since then, I have been exploring the amazing and diverse world of fibers. Yarnia is a really cool independent business and they have a fun process whereby you pick your own color combinations, type of fiber and weight of yarn. I just made my selections and should be receiving my own custom cone of yarn any day! I will keep you posted with what I decide to make with my own special, bulky blend. I am definitely a kid when it comes to these kinds of opportunities. It is sort of like a build-your-own ice cream sundae for your creativity. In fact, if you are stuck in a creative rut, maybe you should just go and build an ice cream sundae or go to one of those paint the pottery places. It might be fun and it might make you feel like a kid again. I'm teaching a bunch of kids art over the summer and I love to see their reactions to things that we adults get ho hum about. They are so excited about stamps and paint and making their very own thing. Sometimes we need to make something that is our very own, custom for us. It makes us feel unique and special. So, yes, the childlike me and the yarn lover me have combined to both be incredibly jazzed about receiving my custom yarn in the mail in the next couple of days. Keep your eyes open or just peek around curiously and see what you can find out there to appeal to that childlike, artistic, creative and curious self. Let me know what you find!
