Well, I must say that I am so thankful I had the privilege to work with this group of artists. To get to know a group of artists and to learn to work together simultaneously was quite an experience that I could not have imagined or contrived. As an artist who is used to working solo in the studio it is amazing to have that same experience that I had as a soccer player in school, that you can gel and work together and move as a team unit.
We were welcomed into the Wynwood neighborhood in South Beach Miami, FL and were given permission to work on some walls. There is a huge amount of trust on the part of the business owners to the artists in the offering up of the wall space as well as a lot of responsibility on the part of the artists to utilize that space to make something beautiful with a limited amount of time and the public watching. Working this way was an incredibly energizing collaboration and a welcome change from being alone in the studio. Sometimes you just have to stir it up to keep the creativity flowing. I definitely returned from the experience with a fresh look for my own painting practice and the hope that we can take that same passion for the landscape of the city to beautify and speak to Asheville. We were mentioned today in the Asheville Citizen Times, check out the link here: http://www.CITIZEN-TIMES.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/201012100015/COLUMNISTS/312100017 TO all the artists we met in Miami, thank you for your warm welcome. To the community in the Wynwood neighborhood, thank you for your feedback and enthusiasm for our work. Look forward to seeing you again! For anyone in Asheville interested in learning more about what we did in Miami there will be an open studio tomorrow Saturday December 11th, 3pm @ 474 Haywood Avenue in West Asheville. Dustin's building is hosting their first group open studio and his painting studio will be open showcasing his work as well as photos from the trip and a sneak peak of the short film being made about the project. Stop by if you can!
